Geothermal to replace coal

Thursday, 26 de April

(CEGA, April 26, 2018) With the imminent and progressive exit of our country’s coal plants, the challenge is to replace almost 5,000 MWe contributed by thermoelectric plants today. The only local energy, clean and available 24/7 to supply this input would be geothermal, according to a study conducted at the University of Chile. This technology could even reuse parts from coal-fired power plants, such as turbines and auxiliary electrical equipment, to lower the costs of entering the market.
