The Los Andes Center of Excellence in Geothermal Energy (CEGA) is a research center within the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Chile, comprising a multidisciplinary team of professionals in geology, engineering, social sciences, and energy.\nIts work is focused on the development of geothermal energy in Chile as a clean and sustainable alternative for electricity and heat generation.\n<\/p>\n

What is Geothermal Energy?<\/h5>\r\n
Geothermal energy is generated by the Earth\u2019s internal heat, which accumulates underground in places known as geothermal reservoirs. How is it formed?<\/h5>\r\n
The Earth\u2019s crust is not smooth; it is divided into eight large plates and more than 20 smaller plates that slowly move and push against each other, at a rate of about 5 to 10 centimeters per year\u2014roughly the same speed at which your fingernails grow.<\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Establishing cutting-edge analysis services is one of CEGA\u2019s central objectives.
