The Andean Geothermal Center of Excellence (CEGA) at the University of Chile and Ecuador’s Geological and Energy Research Institute (IIGE) are working together to advance knowledge of the subsurface and develop new tools to support the growth of shallow geothermal energy in Ecuador.

CEGA Secures Strategic Project to Develop the First High-Andean Living Lab for Public Infrastructure in Arica and Parinacota

The initiative, funded by the Regional Fund for Productivity and Development (FRPD) 2026 of the Regional Government of Arica and Parinacota, will establish a dynamic, integrated, community-based laboratory to generate scientific evidence aimed at improving public infrastructure in mountain territories, strengthening energy efficiency, climate adaptation, and data-driven decision-making.
